🔋 Battery Recycling Information
We offer several convenient ways to recycle your batteries (excluding car batteries) within the SWAC area.
1. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events

Accepted Batteries: All types of household batteries (rechargeable and single-use).

Not Accepted: Car batteries. (Please see the note below.)
2. Local Town Collection Programs (Call2Recycle)
Some town transfer stations, as well as some town offices, are participating in the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (Call2Recycle) battery take-back program. There is no charge for the program.

Important Note: Car Batteries
Car batteries are not accepted at Household Hazardous Waste Collection events. Many area garages or auto parts stores will accept car batteries.
📢 Battery Recycling Law
Effective July 1, 2024: Vermont Primary Battery and Rechargeable Battery Product Stewardship Law
The Vermont Battery Stewardship Program law has been amended to include a wide variety of rechargeable batteries and damaged and defective lithium batteries. This will include free options for collection and recycling of rechargeable and single-use batteries weighing 25 pounds or less or having a watt-hour rating of 2,000 watt-hours or less, damaged and defective lithium batteries and easily removable batteries from battery containing products as defined.
