Aluminum (Cans, Pie Plates, and Foil): BANNED FROM LANDFILL
-
The Law: It is illegal to dispose of aluminum in the trash.
-
What’s Included: Beverage cans, clean pie plates, aluminum trays, and clean foil.
How to Recycle:
-
Recycling: These can be placed in your household recycling bin or taken to any SWAC transfer station recycling container.
-
The “Clean” Rule: Items must be rinsed and free of food residue.
-
The “Ball” Rule for Foil: Ball up clean foil until it is at least 2 inches in diameter (about the size of a tennis ball) before putting it in the bin. This prevents it from getting lost in the sorting machinery.
-
Beverage Cans: For details on which cans have a deposit and where to return them, see the SWAC Beverage Container FAQ.
