⚠️Keeping your trash out of bears’ reach is the most important thing you can do to prevent bear conflicts! ⚠️
For the past few years, Vermont has seen a spike in bear conflict reports. These reports show that unsecured garbage is the number one cause of bear conflicts. If you live in (or visit!) Vermont when bears are active, we need your help to turn this trend around. Make sure you and your neighbors are:
🐻Securing your garbage in a sturdy, locked structure or a bear-proof container.
🐻Keeping your trash locked inside until morning on collection day or regularly bringing your trash to the dump if you don’t have a collection service.
🐻Request bear proof dumpsters from your garbage hauler for your community or business.
