TRANSFER STATION FEE SCHEDULE

There is a “pay-as-you-throw” policy at Fort Dumpster.

“Fort Dumpster” is open for trash disposal and Zero-Sort recycling every Monday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.

The trash “Pay-As-You-Throw” Policy requires a punch card (price – $20.00) that is good for 10 thirty gallon bags of trash or 20 small (15 gallon) bags.

Cards can be purchased at the Town Clerk’s Office, Fort Dumpster or Grant’s Village Store.

The Zero-Sort recycling is FREE for recycling products.

Electronics may be recycled anytime during regular Fort Dumpster hours at no charge.

We also collect and recycle small household batteries (less than 9 lbs.) at no charge at Fort Dumpster.

Middletown Springs Variable Rate Pricing Ordinance

Middletown Springs residents have been recycling for many years, and each year the volume of waste increases that gets recycled. Each pound that is recycled is one less pound that the town does not have to pay a premium price to dispose of. There is a hauling fee and processing fee for recyclables. These fees are much less than what would be paid if they were taken to a landfill or incinerator. If you have any questions regarding recycling at the transfer station, please speak with a transfer station attendent during regularly scheduled operating hours.

Hubbard Brothers of Clarendon hauls Middletown's weekly household trash to the incinerator in Hudson Falls, NY. All recyclables, collected through single stream recycling, , are taken to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) (the old Vicon plant) in Rutland.

Yard Waste In a rural community such as Middletown Springs, most people have a garden that would flourish with home composting. It is a simple process, and it doesn't have to smell or attract unwanted creatures.

Yard waste is classified as leaves, grass clippings, branches, wood chips, etc. These take up a lot of space in the roll-off container, and add to unnecessary tonnage. Why pay a lot of money to get rid of something that recycles so easily?

If you live in an apartment or don't have space to compost, maybe a friend, landlord, or neighbor would be willing to take your yard waste. Ask around. For more information on composting check out the Composting section on this website.

RULE OF THUMB: When in doubt...leave it out!

SOLID WASTE TIPS

Please help run Fort Dumpster as efficiently and cleanly as possible by following these few rules and regulations:

Only Middletown Springs residents may use the transfer station.

Only household waste is allowed in the roll-off. This includes food scraps and anything that is not recyclable. NO yard waste or construction and demolition (C&D) material is allowed in the container.

Do not leave your trash in front of the gate if you come before the transfer station is open. This only attracts dogs, raccoons and other varmints. If you have difficulty getting to the transfer station when it's open, try to find someone who will take your trash for you.

Do not place white goods (refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, etc.), tires, or other large metal objects, furniture, or *household hazardous waste in the container. The town has special collection days two to three times a year for these items.

Please bury dead animals or take them to a veterinarian for cremation. DO NOT put dead animals in the roll-off.

*Household hazardous waste (HHW) events are scheduled throughout the year.  Please visit our upcoming events section of our home page for additional information.  Business hazardous waste is accepted at the Rutland County Solid Waste District Hazardous Waste Depot for a fee. Please call 802-775-7209 to schedule an appointment.
