AVAILABLE TO: Residents of the Solid Waste Alliance Communities (SWAC) Towns ONLY - Benson, Chittenden, Fair Haven, Middletown Springs, Pawlet, Rutland Town, Shrewsbury, Sudbury, Tinmouth, and West Haven. As a resident of SWAC, you may attend ANY of the events listed above, not just the one scheduled for your town.
Residents of these communities may also drop off their household hazardous waste at the Gleason Road Hazardous Waste Depot during normal operating hours . Tuesday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m..
SUMMER HOURS - the 1st Saturday of the month - March - October from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m..

RESIDENTS can also take their household hazardous waste (HHW) to the Rutland County Solid Waste District Hazardous Waste Depot on Gleason Road in Rutland during regularly scheduled operating hours. There is no direct fee to residents for disposal of their HHW. The Solid Waste Alliance Communities (SWAC) share the cost of disposal on a per capita basis.
BUSINESSES, (conditionally exempt generators) which include town offices, schools, and town garages can also take hazardous waste to the Depot. Hazardous waste may include fluorescent bulbs, waste oil, and oil-based paint. There are fees associated with disposal of business hazardous waste. Businesses should contact Tom Remes of the Rutland County Solid Waste District (RCSWD) ( rcswd.com) to obtain disposal fee information as well as to arrange for disposal.

FREE PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: THIS YEAR, in addition to residents, businesses can dispose of their pesticides for FREE! The Department of Agriculture, the Rutland County Solid Waste District, and the Solid Waste Alliance Communities (SWAC) are sponsoring a free pesticide disposal program. Any SWAC resident, farm, or business may bring pesticides to the RCSWD Hazardous Waste Depot for disposal at no charge! This program is available while funding lasts. Call the Hazardous Waste Depot for more information or an appointment to drop off unwanted pesticides. |
The Depot is located on Gleason Road in Rutland, Vermont. It is open year round and is available to residents and businesses. Operating hours are Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Contact Tom Remes at : 802-770-1333 for further information. |

In 2008, the Solid Waste Alliance Communities (SWAC) are sponsoring a mercury thermometer take back program. Bring in a mercury thermometer and receive a solar-powered, digital thermometer for FREE!
Some jobs around the home may require the use of products containing hazardous components. Such products include certain paints, cleaners, stains and varnishes, car batteries, motor oil, and pesticides. The leftover contents of such consumer products are known as "household hazardous waste". Here is a list of some of the more common Household
